Softball ends spring trip with 6-2 mark

The Pipers completed their spring break by splitting a pair of games with UW-Whitewater and Union Saturday in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The Pipers (6-2) scored four unanswered runs to defeat Union 10-6 in the final game of the spring trip.

Hamline pounded out 18 hits in the contest - four by center fielder Jourdan Ulrich, who also added three stolen bases. Every player in the Hamline lineup came up with at least one hit.

Left fielder Grace Weinreich broke a 6-6 tie with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Right fielder Betsy Kralich and Ulrich added run-scoring singles in the seventh inning.

Designated hitter Kala Ebbe went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a triple in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Theresa Boleen pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. She allowed no runs on just two hits, struck out two and walked three.

In the first game of the day, the Pipers rallied froma 7-0 deficit, but fell short with a 7-5 loss to UW-Whitewater.

Hamline scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to draw closer. Weinreich added a two-run triple in the inning. But the Pipers couldn't get anything going in the seventh.

Boleen took the loss, allowing seven runs - two earned - through seven innings. She struck out five and walked five.

The Pipers will start the MIAC season on Wednesday against St. Benedict. Game time at Helen Meredith Field is set for 4:00 p.m.
