Boleen throws one-hitter as softball sweeps

Center fielder Jourdan Ulrich became Hamline's single season stolen base leader after posting her 20th on Saturday.
Sophomore Theresa Boleen pitched a complete game one-hitter to lead Hamline to a 2-1 victory over St. Olaf in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Helen Meredith Field. Hamline won the second game 7-2.

Boleen (8-7) gave up a leadoff hit to Ali Berens to start the game, but did not allow a base hit after that point. Boleen struck out seven and walked six to earn her eighth win of the season.

The Pipers (14-10, 8-6 in the MIAC) scored single runs in the second and third innings. First baseman Sarah Dittberner started the scoring with an RBI single in the second. Left fielder Grace Weinreich hit a solo home run - her second of the season - with two out in the third.

The Oles (5-18, 3-9) cut the lead in half with a run in the fifth. After two walks to leadoff the inning, Katie Dobie's sacrifice bunt was thrown into right field to score a run.

But Boleen got out of the inning with no further harm. She struck out Alyssa Williams. Janae Fabini was cut down at home on a fielder's choice, and Jess Magnuson lined out to Brenna Healy to end the threat.

Ole pitcher Jenny Beiersdorf (1-8) gave up two runs on five hits in the contest.

In game two, Hamline starter Rachel Roberts allowed two runs - none earned - on eight hits in the Pipers 7-2 victory. She struck out three and walked none in the game.

Hamline erased an early 1-0 deficit with a single run in the second and four more in the third. Shortstop Sophie Davidson and right fielder Kala Ebbe each added RBIs in the four-run third.

The Pipers pounded out 14 hits in the contest - three each from Davidson and Ebbe. Ebbe also added two RBIs.

Center fielder Jourdan Ulrich, Weinreich, and designated player Kellie Hoen each added two hits. In the sixth, Ulrich became Hamline's single season stolen base leader with her 20th swipe of the season.

The Pipers will travel to Carleton on Sunday to play Carleton. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
