Softball wins pair to open season

First-year Brenna Healy hit a two-out two-run triple in the seventh inning to defeat the University of Chicago 5-3 Tuesday in Ft. Myers, Fla. Hamline won their first game of the season 3-0 over Elms College.

The Pipers (2-0) were down to their last out, trailing 3-2 to the University of Chicago, but three straight singles by Holly Wiborg, Grace Weinreich, and Sarah Dittberner knotted the game at 3-3.

Healy followed with the biggest hit of her young career - a triple to right center to score two and give the Pipers their first lead of the contest.

Hamline pounded out nine hits in the contest. Wiborg, Weinreich, and Healy each added two hits for the Pipers.

Sophomore pitcher Theresa Boleen allowed two earned runs for the complete game win. She struck out one and walked none.

Boleen starred in the first game as well, pitching a complete game, one-hitter to lead the Pipers to a 3-0 win over Elms College. Boleen struck ot eight and walked two in contest,

The Pipers would score all the runs they would need in the first on a Weinreich RBI single.

Hamline would add single runs in the second and sixth innings.

Jourdan Ulrich and Sophie Davidson each added two hits to the Hamline attack.

The Pipers will play Wooster Wednesday in Ft. Myers, Fla.
