Softball earns sweep over Bethel

The Hamline fastpitch softball team evened their conference record at 6-6 with 4-0 and 8-2 victories over Bethel Thursday afternoon at Arden Hills, Minn.

In game one, Hamline pitchers Theresa Boleen and Rachel Roberts combined on a three-hitter to lead the Pipers (12-10, 6-6 in the MIAC) to a 4-0 win.

Boleen (7-7) went six innings, allowing three hits. She fanned six and walked three. Roberts pitched a perfect seventh inning to close out the game.

The Piper scored single runs in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Left fielder Grace Weinreich and shortstop Sophie Davidson each added two hits to the Piper attack.

In game two, the Hamline bats came alive in an 8-2 win. First baseman Sarah Dittberner went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, one run scored, and two RBIs.

Leading 3-1, Hamline put the game away with five runs in the sixth. Roberts hit a two-run single in the inning while center fielder Jourdan Ulrich added a two-run triple. Ulrich stole two bases in the doubleheader to tie the Hamline school record for stolen bases in a season with 19.

Roberts (5-2) went the distance on the mound. She gave up two earned runs on eight hits. She struck out five and walked none.

 

The Pipers will host St. Olaf Saturday afternoon at Helen Meredith Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
