![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Pipers, who swept Bethel University the day before, upped their record to 14-10, 8-4 MIAC with the four wins on Saturday and Sunday. In the opener in Moorhead, after four fast scoreless innings, Sarah Dittberner (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) drew a lead-off walk, and was then bunted to second by Kellie Hoen (Jr., Cologne, Minn.). Heidi Larsen's (Fy., Andover, Minn.) one-out bunt then moved Dittberner to third, and she then scored on a Cobber error during Sophie Davidson's (So., St. Paul, Minn.) at-bat. Concordia responded in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 1-1. The two teams battled through four more scoreless innings before Davidson started the 10th inning on second. She advanced to third when the Cobbers failed to record an out on Jourdan Ulrich's (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) plate appearance, placing runners at first and third with no outs. Grace Weinreich (Jr., Wahkon, Minn.) then singled home the winning run. The Cobbers escaped without allowing any more runs in the 10th, but were unable to manage a run of their own to continue the game. Jessalyn Weaver (So., Eagan, Minn.) went extra innings for the second day in a row, throwing all 10 innings for the Pipers in the win. She gave up six hits and threw six strikeouts, walking just two batters. In game two, Hamline opened the first inning with Davidson reaching on a Cobber error, and then advancing to second. She scored as the Cobbers tried unsuccessfully to stop a steal attempt by Weinreich. Concordia responded with a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. The score remained at 1-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when Davidson hit a leadoff double for the Pipers before advancing to third on a wild pitch with Ulrich at the plate. Ulrich then doubled to left center, scoring Davidson for the 2-1 lead. The ultimate winning run was scored when Brenna Healy (So., Mounds View, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Ulrich, giving Hamline a 3-1 advantage. Concordia scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, as Hamline left with a the 3-2 win and series sweep. Kelsey Tacheny threw the complete game for the Pipers, scattering six hits and two strikeouts while walking none. |
