Ulrich, Weaver earn MIAC athlete of the week honors

Jessalyn Weaver Jourdan Ulrich
Hamline University junior center fielder Jourdan Ulrich (Apple Valley, Minn.) and sophomore pitcher Jessalyn Weaver (Eagan, Minn.) were named MIAC co-hitter of the week and pitcher of the week, respectively, the conference office announced today.

The two were key components of a 7-1 run last week, including sweeps of conference opponents St. Olaf, Saint Benedict, and Macalester, that put the Pipers into position to clinch an MIAC playoff berth with their win today against St. Catherine.

Ulrich hit .533 and scored nine runs and only had three strikeouts. In centerfield, Ulrich remained perfect on the season with no errors and nine putouts.

Her week concluded with a stand-out performance against Macalester in freezing temperatures and two innings of snow on Sunday, as she went 6-for-7, including a triple, with three runs scored and was 4-for-4 in stolen bases attempts.

Weaver tallied four wins and a save in leading the Pipers from the rubber. She put together a 1.03 ERA in 34 innings pitched, giving up just five earned runs, struck out 19 and threw four complete games and a shutout.

She was also perfect in fielding on 10 chances, with three putouts.

With today's split, the Pipers clinch a spot in the 2008 MIAC playoffs, to be played this weekend at the Rice Creek Complex in Mounds View.
