St. Thomas sweeps fastpitch softball

The Hamline fastpitch softball team fell to St. Thomas 11-0 and 8-0 Saturday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn.

The Pipers (6-6, 0-4) were held to four hits in the two five-inning games. Sophomore Maria Bye threw a three-hit shutout for St. Thomas in game one.

Outfielder Rachael Young, shortstop Holly Wiborg, and catcher Katie Prasek all hits singles for the Pipers.

St. Thomas (19-1, 4-0) erupted for eight runs in the third inning for the win. Carrie Embree and Ashley Carlblom both hit home runs for the Tommies.

In game two, Janet Nagle pitched three hitless innings as St. Thomas jumped out to the lead.

Outfielder Sara Mickelson broke up the no hitter, leading off the fourth inning with a base hit off reliever Kallie Samuelson.

The Pipers will host Martin Luther Monday afternoon at Helen Meredith Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
