Fastpitch softball falls at UW-River Falls

The Hamline fastpitch softball team dropped 4-1 and 3-0 decisions to UW-River Falls Tuesday afternoon in River Falls, Wis.

The Pipers (8-14) trailed 2-0 in game one, but fought back to cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the fifth innings.

After a one-out single by Holly Wiborg, first-year Grace Weinreich hit a run-scoring double. Weinreich later stole third, but could not score the tying run.

UW-River Falls (14-10) would score two insurance runs in their half of the inning. Mindy Rudiger went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored twice for the Falcons.

Hamline pitcher Theresa Boleen (8-14) allowed two earned runs over six innings. She struck out three and walked none.

Ashley Bertrand (9-5) took the win for River Falls. She also threw a two-hitter in game two for the win.

The Falcons scored twice in the first inning on a two-run homer by Breamber Syverson.

The Pipers will host Carleton Wednesday afternoon at Helen Meredith Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
