Offense back on track as fastpitch softball sweeps Macalester![]()
![]() ![]() The Pipers (8-6, 2-4 in the MIAC) handled the Scots (2-14, 1-5) in five innings to take game one. Hamline scored four times in the third and six more in the fourth inning for the win. First baseman Kristina Hedberg keyed the third inning with a two-run single. She finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. The Pipers had 11 hits as a team in the contest. In the fourth, Hamline brought 11 batters to the plate. Designated player Kellie Hoen hit a three-run triple to start the scoring for the Pipers. She later scored on a Lindsey Lingl single. Senior Rachael Young went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Pipers. Hoen and Hedberg were joined by third baseman Sarah Dittberner with twp hits for the Pipers. First-year Theresa Boleen pitched four shutout innings to earn the win. She combined with reliever Brittany Nelson on a two-hitter. In game two, Young went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a three-run homer in the sixth inning to lead Hamline to a 10-4 win. After scoring single runs in the first and second innings, the Pipers hung four runs on the Scots in both the fourth and sixth innings. Dittberner, Jourdan Ulrich, and Sara Mickelson all had RBI singles for the Pipers in the fourth. Hedberg was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including a run-scoring double in the sixth. Ulrich and Dittberner each had three hits apiece. Kate Ziegler, Kate Ayer, and Erin Duvall each posted two hits for Macalester. Boleen pitched a complete game for the win. She struck out seven and walked two in the contest. The Pipers will travel to St. Catherine on Thursday. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
