Fastpitch softball falls to St. Scholastica

The Hamline softball team dropped a pair of contests to St. Scholastica, losing the first game 4-1 and the second 4-0 Monday afternoon in Duluth, Minn.

Saints pitcher Laura Heise held the Pipers (8-12) to just three hits in the doubleheader. Senior outfielder Rachael Young led the way offensively with two hits - both in game one.

In game one, St. Scholastica (17-5) scored twice in both the third and fifth innings. Leadoff hitter Kristi Erickson scored in both rallies to lead the way.

First-year Theresa Boleen held the Saints in check most of the day, allowing two earned runs. She struck out two and walked two.

Heise fanned 11 Pipers in game one. She also added five strike outs in game two. Heise no hit the Pipers in game two.

The Saints would score twice in both the first and second innings. Erickson was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Andrea Thomas had three hits for the Saints.

The Pipers will play at UW-River Falls on Tuesday. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
