Women's softball drops two games against Concordia

After giving up eight runs in the sixth inning of game one en route to a 9-2 defeat, the fastpitch team dropped a 17-11 decision against the Cobbers in game two on Wednesday at Meredith Field.

The Pipers were tied 1-1 with Concordia for the first five innings.  Junior Katie Prasek bunted in the third inning to drive in Rachael Young for Hamline’s first score of the game.

The Cobbers went on to score eight runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-1 lead.  The Pipers were able to record one more run in the sixth inning on a single by Kristina Hedberg, but dropped the first game 9-2.

Young and sophomore Sara Mickelson each tallied two hits in game one. 

In game two, both teams scored at least one run in every inning.  Despite scoring eleven runs, the Pipers walked 19 batters and dropped the game in a 17-11 decision.

Sophomore Lindsey Lingl went 3-3 at the plate for Hamline.  Young and first-years Jourdan Ulrich and Sarah Dittberner had two hits apiece.  Junior Holly Wiborg led all Pipers with three RBIs.

Young was filling in at the mound for starting pitcher Theresa Boleen, who was injured earlier in the week. 

The doubleheader was the final match of the season for the Pipers.  The team finishes with an overall record of 19-21, 7-15 in the MIAC.
