Men's soccer suffer first conference loss at St. John's

The Hamline men's soccer team lost for the first time in the MIAC, dropping a 1-0 decision to St. John's Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, Minn.

The Pipers (10-2-1, 5-1-1 in the MIAC) entered the game as the only MIAC team without a conference loss, but the Johnnies (10-3-1, 6-1) tallied the only goal of the game at the 69:19 mark of the second half on Justin Swierk's third goal of the year.

Hamline goalkeeper Andrew Clement made five saves in his first loss of the season. The Pipers were ranked seventh in the West Region in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll.

Johnnie Matt Sundberg stopped two shots for the win.

St. John's held a 16-8 advantage in shots and 6-2 edge in shots on goal in the contest.

The Pipers will host Gustavus in an important MIAC contest Wednesday afternoon at Pat Paterson Fields. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
