Macalester beats men's soccer in MIAC finale
![]() Hamline (10-4-2, 5-3-2 in the MIAC), who clinched their second straight MIAC playoff appearance on Wednesday night, took a 2-1 lead into the break when junior Nathan Anderson scored his first goal of the season off a cross from Jason Engedal at 38:39 of the first half. But the Scots (8-8-1, 5-5) responded with two goals in the second half. Carson Gorecki scored at 59:09 to knot the score at 2-2. He later assisted on Magnus Oppenheimer's game-winning goal at 63:10. The two teams traded goals to start the game. Macalester opened the scoring at 17:23 on an Alex Whitworth goal. Hamline senior forward Jacob Helling netted his 12th goal of the season less than four minutes later to make the score 1-1. Helling leads the MIAC in goals (8) and points (17) in conference action. Hamline goalkeeper Andrew Clement made five saves in the contest. Counterpart Dan Schroeder stopped three shots for the Scots. The Pipers will play either Gustavus or St. John's in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs Tuesday afternoon. |
