Men's soccer handles Coe 5-1

Senior Jacob Helling added a goal and an assist while senior Steven Dupic added a pair of assists to lead Hamline to a 5-1 win over Coe College Saturday afternoon in Iowa.

The Pipers (2-0) completed a two-game sweep of schools from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after defeating the Cohawks (0-1-1).

Hamline scored three times in the first 20:31 of the game to take command. Helling set up a Jason Engedal goal just 1:17 into the first half to give Hamline the lead.

After a Coe own goal made the score 2-0, Helling scored his second goal of the season at the 20:31 mark. Hamline fired 11 shots in the first half - 10 on goal. They finished with 20 shots on goal in the contest compared to six for Coe.

Coe's Chris Koenig scored at 37:27 to cut the lead to 3-1 on at the break.

Hamline would added goals by Elvi Gacaj and Matt Ward for the game's final tally.

First-year Ryan Fahey made four saves to earn his first collegiate victory. First-year Kevin Hogan made one save in the second half.

The Pipers will host Carroll Saturday afternoon at Pat Paterson Fields. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
