Lukas lifts Pipers past Carroll

Drew Lukas scored the Pipers' game-winning goal versus Carroll.
Sophomore Drew Lukas scored on a header at the 80:15 mark of the second half to lift Hamline to a 2-1 victory over Carroll College Saturday afternoon at Pat Paterson Fields.

With the game tied at 1-1, Lukas took a cross from sophomore midfielder Mike Landerholm, rose above the defense and beat goalkeeper Nick Kavelaris.

The Pipers (3-0) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half on Jacob Helling's third goal of the season at 30:57. He was also assisted on the play by Landerholm.

Carroll (0-2) tied the game midway through the second half on an Alex Goranson goal.

Both teams had 10 shots in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Andrew Clement made five saves to earn the win. Kavelaris earned the loss while Carroll starter Drew Knoten made one save.

The Pipers will play Milwaukee School of Engineering Sunday afternoon at Pat Paterson Fields. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
