Men's hockey shutout by UW-Stout

UW-Stout scored three times in the second period to break open a close game and go on to a 5-0 victory over the Pipers Friday night at Drake Arena.

Stout (11-1-2), ranked seventh in the latest USCHO.com poll, went 3-of-10 on the power play in the contest. After grabbing a 2-0 lead, the Blue Devils netted a pair of power play goals during a Hamline major penalty.

Blue Devil Scott Motz scored at 14:04 of the second period to give Stout a 3-0 lead. It was Motz's first of two goals in the contest. Paul Henderson later scored on the same power play to make it 4-0.

Stout opened the scoring at 14:38 of the first period on a Derek Hanson power-play goal.

Hamline (4-9) went 0-of-4 with an extra skater and were called for nine penalties totaling 29 minutes.

First-year goaltender Matt Wanvig stopped 29 shots in the game while Mike Stone earned the shutout, making 24 saves.

Hamline will host St. Norbert next Friday night at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
