Long, Wanvig lead men's hockey past UW-Stevens Point
![]() The Pipers (1-2) jumped in front of the Pointers (2-1), who were ranked ninth in the latest USCHO.com poll, with a three-goal first period. Sophomore Dustin Fulton scored a short-handed goal 57 seconds into the first period. Fulton would later add three assists in the game. Long would add his first and second goals of the game to give Hamline a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period. UW-Stevens Point would cut the lead to 4-3 heading into the third period, but Long answered with his third goal of the game at the 4:35 mark of the period. First-year Lee Joos added a goal at 12:54 to make the score 6-3. The Pointers netted two late goals before Jim Erickson scored an empty netter to put the game away. First-year Wanvig stopped 52 of 57 shots in the game, including 20 saves in the third period alone. Ryan Miech made 18 saves for UW-Stevens Point in the loss. Hamline was 3-for-5 with a man advantage in the contest while the Pointers were 2-for-10 with an extra skater. Hamline will play at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday night. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. |
