Men's hockey falls to St. Norbert

Green Knight Jeff Hazelwood netted a pair of first period goals as St. Norbert defeated Hamline 5-1 Friday night at Drake Arena.

Hazelwood netted goals at 3:36 and 6:09 of the first period to give the Green Knights (13-1-2) at two-goal advantage heading into the first intermission. St. Norbert fired the first 10 shots on goal in the contest before the Pipers (4-10) settled down and outshot St. Norbert 7-2 the rest of the way.

Hamline would cut the lead in half in the second period when Steve Festler scored a breakaway goal at 7:38. He was assisted on the play by Kyle Kurr and Dustin Fulton.

St. Norbert answered with a pair of goal before the second intermission. Shane Wheeler and Marc Belanger each netted goals for the Green Knights.

Matt Boyd completed the scoring at 19:39 of the third period on a Matt Boyd tally.

Hamline goaltender Matt Wanvig stopped 32 shots in the contest. Kyle Jones made 14 saves for St. Norbert in the victory.

The Pipers will host Lake Forest Saturday night at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
