Lonke named assistant men's hockey coach

Chris Lonke, the head boys' hockey coach at Simley High School, has been appointed assistant men's hockey coach, head coach Scott Bell announced.

During six seasons at Simley (2001-07), Lonke led the Spartans to a runner-up finish in the 2003 State Class A tournament. He was named Section 3A Coach of the Year and the John Mariucci MHCA Class A Coach of the Year in 2002-03.

Lonke currently serves as a board member with the MHCA as the communications officer. He has also coached numerous Minnesota Hockey Advanced 16 and 17 festivals through the coaches association. This experience has led to coaching at USA Hockey’s national festivals. Lonke has coached the last four summers between USA Hockey’s Select 14 and 15 festivals.

Lonke also has 10 years of high school baseball coaching experience at Simley, Eden Prairie, and in his hometown of Proctor.

Lonke received his undergraduate degree from the UW-Superior and a master's in activities and athletic administration through St. Thomas. He is currently an elementary physical education teacher in Minneapolis.

He replaces Jay Moser as Bell's top assistant. Moser was named head boys' hockey coach at Park High School. He was the top assistant at Hamline for the last two seasons.
