Festler's penalty shot gives Pipers victory
![]() After Festler was brought down on a breakaway attempt at 10:13 of the third period, the sophomore beat Forester goaltender Brandon Kohuch to give Hamline (5-10) a 5-4 lead. Festler finished the game with a goal and three assists in the contest. The line of Festler, Dustin Fulton, and Andrew Birkholz accounted for all five Hamline goals in the contest. Trailing 1-0 after the first period, Fulton knotted the score 46 seconds into the second period with his fifth goal of the season. In just his second game in the lineup for the Pipers, Birkholz would add a goal three minutes later to give the Pipers a 2-1 lead. Lake Forest (3-12-1) tied the score later in the period on a Tyler Canal goal - one of two for Canal in the game - before Birkholz added his second goal of the night to make the score 3-2 at the end of the second period. The Foresters would tie the game two more times in the third period, but the Pipers would have an answer each time. Fulton scored his second goal of the game at 7:28 to make the score 4-3 before Festler netted the game-winner. Hamline netminder Matt Wanvig stopped 31 shots for the win. Kohuch made 23 saves in a losing effort. The Pipers with return to MIAC play on Jan. 26 when they travel to St. Mary's. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. |
