Men's hockey falls in overtime to Gustavus
With Gustavus (3-6-1, 3-0 in the MIAC) on a 4-on-3 power play to start the overtime, Keseley fired a wrister from the to left face-off circle that beat Hamline netminder Matt Wanvig. Wanvig was stellar in goal for the Pipers (2-5, 1-2), making 37 saves in the contest and 14 in the third period to force overtime. Hamline jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period. First-year Matt Buckley started the scoring at the 10:39 mark of the period when he stuffed home a centering pass from Lee Joos. Sophomore Steve Festler netted his first of two goals at 19:23 to break a 1-1 tie. The Gusties would tie the game with a Cody Mosback power-play goal and take the lead with a John Arundel tally at 16:31. Hamline answered with Festler's second goal of the game at 17:26 of the second period - the last goal of the game before Keseley's game-winner. Kevin Johnson earned the win in goal for the Gusties, making 19 saves. Gustavus was 2-for-4 on the power play while the Pipers went 0-for-3 with a man advantage. The two teams will play again Saturday night in St. Peter. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. |
