Men's hockey loses after wild third period![]()
![]() The Pipers (2-8, 1-5 in the MIAC) led 4-2 with 6:43 elapsed in the third period when Lee Joos scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist Joe Long. But the Cobbers (5-4, 2-2) responded with four goals in the final 13:17 of the contest. Knut Bitustoeyl pulled the Cobbers within 4-3 at 7:25. Brent Sands knotted the game at 4-4 less than two minutes later. Tony Janssen tallied the game-winner at 12:58, and Blaine Gamst scored an insurance goal 1:28 later for the game's final tally. After trailing 1-0 heading into the second period, Hamline tied the game on Long's eighth goal of the season. Michael McDonough added a second-period goal as the two teams were tied 2-2 heading into the third. Matt Buckley gave Hamline a 3-2 edge with his third goal of the season at 5:47 of the third period before Joos upped the lead to 4-2. Concordia held a 40-30 advantage in shots on goal in the contest. Todor Petkov stopped 34 shots for the Pipers. Jeremy Boniface made 26 saves to earn the win. The Pipers will be off until Dec. 30 when they play Johnson & Wales in the St. Michael's Tournament in Vermont. Game time is set for 4:00 EST. |
