Jared HummelWith the win over the Tommies on Friday night, the Pipers secured three valuable points in the MIAC standings.

St. Thomas started the scoring at 14:08 in the first period, but Jared Hummel (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) didn't let the lead stand long, as he scored seconds later at 14:55 to tie the game. Chris Berenguer (Fy., Eden Prairie, Minn.) was credited with the assist on the score.

After skating through the second period without any scoring, junior co-captain Dustin Fulton (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) picked up the rebound off of a shot by Hummel while the Pipers were on the power play and put it past the Tommie goalie to give Hamline a 2-1 lead, exactly one minute into the third period. Joe Long (Fy., Dayton, Minn.) also earned an assist on the goal.

St. Thomas attempted to start a comeback at 4:34 in the third period, but a Tommie goal was called off, a missing tally from the scoreboard that was extremely helpful in keeping the game tied in the end.

Hamline would score one more time, as Fulton and Berenguer combined to provide assists to Andrew Birkholz (So., Maple Grove, Minn.), whose goal at 7:38 gave Hamline a 3-1 lead.

St. Thomas rallied to earn a point in the standings, as the Tommies scored at 11:05, and then again at 19:09 on a power play.

With the game in overtime, Hamline earned a power play opportunity, but couldn't capitalize to take the series sweep.

The Pipers now sit at 11-6-4, 7-3-2 MIAC, while St. Thomas is 14-5-2, 8-3-1 MIAC.
