Kurr, Fulton tally two in win over Saint Mary's

Kyle Kurr (So., Elk River, Minn.) and Dustin Fulton (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) each had two goals, while six of their teammates had multiple points, in an 8-5 MIAC win over Saint Mary's.

The Pipers barely waited for the puck to drop before they began their scoring, with Steve Festler (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) scoring just 13 seconds after the game started. Andrew Birkholz (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Joe Long (Jr., Dayton, Minn.) earned the assists on the goal.

Kyle KuttFive minutes later, Fulton scored his first goal of the night, with Birkholz receiving credit for his second assist in as many goals and Jared Hummel (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) getting his first assist of the night.

Birkholz then scored a short-handed goal at 11:47, his first goal of the year, on assists from Chris Berenguer (Fy., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Dustin Postell (So., Wadena, Minn.). His goal gave the Pipers a 3-0 lead heading into the locker room for the first intermission.

Saint Mary's tried to exact some revenge for the Pipers' quick scoring, as the Cardinals got on the board with their first goal just 36 seconds into the second period. Hamline scored again, less than a minute later with Kurr's first goal of the game at 1:30 in the second on assists from Kyle Mattson (Fy., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Nick Zilka (Fy., Mound, Minn.).

Once again, the Cardinals scored, bring the score to 4-2 in favor of the home team. However, Fulton's second goal of the game came at 12:22 to give the Pipers a three-goal lead once again.

The Cardinals continued to the goal-scoring exchange at 18:55, sending the two teams to the locker room for the second intermission with the score 5-3.

Long's ninth goal of the season came on a power play at 5:53 in Andrew Birkholzthe third, capping giving Hamline a goal under every situation - even-strength, short-handed and power-play. His score was also the game-winner. He was assisted by Cory Krogen (So., Marshall, Minn.) and Hummel.

Saint Mary's scored again at 7:11 and 14:15, sandwiching a Zilka goal from Kurr and Mattson at 11:21. Hamline's final goal of the game came at 16:57 from Kurr. He was assisted by the rest of the trio from the seventh Piper goal - Mattson and Zilka.

Hamline is now at 8-4-2, 4-1-0 MIAC, while Saint Mary's fell to 6-7-2, 4-3-0 MIAC. The same two teams play again Saturday night in Winona.
