![]() ![]() In the first period, the Pipers out-shot the Falcons 12-3, but it was Concordia University who entered the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. The Falcons' goals were scored at 13:44 Alec Kautzman (So., Bismarch, N.D.) and at 17:36 by Jari Sanders (Fy., Cape Coral, Fla.). The Falcons' lead only lasted five more minutes, as the Pipers' Kyle Mattson (Fy., Maple Grove, Minn.) scored the first Hamline goal at 1:36 in the second period, followed by a power-play goal from Kyle Kurr (So., Elk River, Minn.) at 5:08 to tie the game. Chris Johnson (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) earned the assist on the Mattson goal, while Justin Hanna (Jr., Little Canada, Minn.) and Nick Zilka (Fy., Mound, Minn.) were credited with the assists on Kurr's score. The ultimate game-winner was scored by Jared Hummel (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) from Kurr and Zilka less than a minute later at 5:52. After that, six additional Pipers scored goals, resulting in nine different skaters with goals. Eight additional players earning assists. The fourth Piper goal was scored by Austin Tavis at 12:42 in the second, with an assist from Joe Long (Jr., Dayton, Minn.). Cory Krogen then scored a power play goal at 16:18 with assists from Hummel and Dustin Fulton (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) Hamline resumed their scoring in the third period when Steve Festler's unassisted power play goal just 47 seconds into the period made the score 6-2. Hanna then scored a goal of his own at 3:23, with assists to Cole Scatterelli (So., Elk River, Minn.) and Tony Roth (Fy., White Bear Lake, Minn.). The eighth Piper goal came from the newest member of the team seconds later at 3:54. Chris Berenguer (Fy., Eden Prairie, Minn.), playing in his first game for Hamline, scored a power play goal from the middle of the blue line with assists credited to Festler and Kurr. Hamline's final goal came half a minute before the final buzzer at 19:28 from Matt Buckley (So., Dayton, Minn.). Mattson and Jim Erickson (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had the assists. The Pipers out-shot the Falcons 49-8 in the contest. Hamline improved to 5-3-2, 3-1 MIAC with the non-conference win. Concordia, playing their inaugural season of hockey, fell to 1-11-0, 1-7-0 MCHA. The same two teams meet again tomorrow, Saturday, January 5, at 7:15 p.m. at Drake Arena. |
