Men's hockey completes sweep of Concordia at home

Dustin Fulton (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) kept his MIAC goal-scoring streak alive in a 4-1 defeat of the Cobbers on Saturday night in St. Paul.

Dustin PostellAt just 3:13 in the first period, Dustin Postell (So., Wadena, Minn.) opened the Piper scoring with Nick Zilka (Fy, Mound, Minn.) earning the assist.

The remainder of the first period remained scoreless, but the Pipers resumed scoring at just 1:45 into the second period when Kyle Kurr (So., Elk River, Minn.) scored his third goal of the weekend series. Justin Hanna (Jr., Little Canada, Minn.) and Drake Herd (Fy., Alexandria, Minn.) had the assists.

The Pipers scored their only power play goal of the game when defenseman Cory Krogen (So., Marshall, Minn.) took advantage of a 4-on-3 situation at 17:03 in the second period. Jared Hummel (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) and Fulton earned the assists on the score.

Concordia scored their lone goal just before the eight-minute mark in the third period. Fulton, who has tallied a goal in all four MIAC games the Pipers have played this season, then scored the Zach Faustfourth Hamline goal of the game at 13:17 to bring the final score to 4-1.

Piper goalie Zach Faust (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had an impressive night in the net, stopping 21 of 22 shots.

Hamline evened their overall record at 3-3-1, and improved to 3-1 in the MIAC. Concordia dropped to 1-6-0, 0-2-0 MIAC.

The Pipers have a two week break from competition, and will return to play on Saturday, December 15 at 7:15 p.m. when they host UM-Crookston on Alumni Night.
