The Pipers were one short of the #6 ranked Falcons' tally in shots and in goals in a 5-4 loss on the road on Saturday.

The scoring started early in the game, with UW-River Falls jumping out to the 1-0 lead less than one minute into the game, but the Pipers tied it up at 4:08 in the first period when junior Dustin Fulton (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored on an assist from first-year defenseman Jared Hummel (Eagan, Minn.).

UW-River Falls went on the attack after that score, putting up three more goals in the opening period of play. Eight minutes into the second period, Fulton answered with his second goal of the game on assists from Hummel and junior Joe Long (Dayton, Minn.) to narrow the lead to 4-2.

River Falls struck back, scoring what wound up to be the game-winner half-way through the period.

Hamline attempted a rally in the third, scoring two unanswered goals to drop the Falcons' lead to one goal, but it wasn't enough to upset the home team. Hummel scored his first collegiate goal 35 seconds into the final period when Fulton returned the favor from earlier in the game by joining Long on the assist.

The final Piper goal was scored three minutes into the period when sophomore defenseman Cory Krogen scored off of assists from Fulton and Andrew Birkholz (Fy., Maple Grove, Minn.).

Hamline had three multi-point scorers in the game with Fulton's four points, Hummel's three, and the two points on Long's assists.

The Piper will play their home opener on Friday, November 9 at 7:15 p.m. at Drake Arena against St. Scholastica.
