Birkholz earns MIAC honors
The sophomore forward led the Pipers to a win and a tie against fifth-ranked St. Thomas, securing three of four available points for Hamline in the weekend series. The three points acquired put the Pipers in a third-place tie in the conference standings, one point behind St. Thomas and three behind Bethel. In Friday night's 5-4 victory, which was the first for the Pipers over St. Thomas since the 1992-93 season (the Pipers were 0-30-1 in the 15 seasons between wins), Birkholz scored the game-winning goal and added three assists - taking part in the scoring in four of Hamline's five goals. In Saturday's 3-3 tie, Birkholz scored the Piper's third goal. The Pipers are 11-6-4, 7-3-2 MIAC and take on Augsburg in this weekend's conference match-up. Hamline travels to Augsburg for a 7:05 p.m. start on Friday, and hosts the Auggies at Drake Arena at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. |
