Men's hockey closes out season with loss to Tommies

Tommies Nate Ryan and Andy Panchenko each netted two goals as the St. Thomas defeated Hamline 10-3 in the regular season finale Saturday night at Drake Arena.

The Tommies (16-8-1, 13-2-1 in the MIAC) opened up a 4-2 contest with six goals in the third period.

St. Thomas jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Pipers (4-18-3, 3-11-2) scored two goals in the second period to cut the lead in half.

Luke Chilson scored for the Pipers at 10:05 of the period. First-year Jim Erickson added a power-play goal at 19:22 to make the game 4-2 heading in the third period.

However, the Tommies scored three straight to open the third period. Ryan scored the first of his two goals of the period at 2:06.  Matt Kaiser and Andrew Edwards also added tallies to make the score 7-2.

Senior Griffin Kilby, playing in his last career game, scored at 8:33 of the third period.

Hamline goaltender Todor Petkov made 30 saves in the loss. Jeremy Earl stopped 15 shots in two periods to earn the win. Jake Maida stopped eights shots in the third period.
