Men's hockey drops opener 4-0
The Pipers (0-1), playing their first game under head coach Scott Bell, went toe-to-toe with the 7th-ranked team in the nation. Hamline came out firing, outshooting the Yellowjackets (2-0) 10-7 in the first period. However, the Yellowjackets would draw first blood with a Colin Quiguet goal at 13:51 of the period to make the score 1-0. UW-Superior held a 23-13 edge in shots the rest of the way. B.J. Radovich made the score 2-0 at the 7:00 mark of the second period. They would put the game out of reach in the third period. After killing off a penalty, Myles Palliser was able to get behind the defense and beat Hamline goaltender Todor Petkov topshelf at 1:04 of the period. Yellowjacket Nate Rein score at 15:08 for the game's final tally. Superior held a 30-23 edge in shots on goal for the contest. Petkov made 26 saves for the Pipers. Yellowjacket netminder Baron Bradley stopped 23 shots for the shutout victory. Hamline will next host St. Scholastica Saturday night at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. |
