Men's hockey loses to Gustavus 6-2

Gustavus scored three goals in the first 10:55 of the game and went on to a 6-2 victory over the Pipers Friday night in St. Peter, Minn.

Leading 1-0 on a Keith Detlefsen goal at 4:35, the Gusties (6-2, 3-0 in the MIAC) received two goals from Mike Hosfield at 5:45 and 10:55 of the first period to take a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Hamline (1-8-2, 0-4-1) would eventually trail 5-0 before the Pipers came back with a pair of power-play goals in the third period. First-year Justin Hanna tallied his fourth goal of the season 7:53 while first-year Steve Festler netted his second goal of the season at 9:20.  First-year Ted Urschel assisted on both of the goals for the Pipers.

The Pipers finished 2 of 8 on the power play. Gustavus was 1 of 5 with an extra skater. Gustavus was whistled for 14 penalties for 44 minutes with Hamline being called for eight penalties for 32 minutes. Sixty minutes of penalties were called in the third period.

Hamline netminder Cameron Voss stopped 26 shots while taking the loss. Erik Kraska earned the win in goal for the Gusties, making 27 saves.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
