Gustie power play too much for men's hockey
After Gustavus (7-2, 4-0) took a 2-0 on two power-play goals in the first period, the Pipers (1-9-2, 0-5-1) cut the lead in half on first-year Pat LeClaire's first collegiate goal at 2:34 of the second period. However, the Gusties reeled off three goals in a span of 4:49 to pull away. Hosfield netted a power-play goal at 3:14 and another at 6:13. Havemeier scored on the power play at 8:03 to make the score 5-1. Havemeier also started the scoring for the Gusties and added his third of the night at 16:46 on the power play. Hosfield would add another goal at 12:32 of the second period. Hamline first-year Luke Chilson added his first career goal on the power play at 11:50. In all, the two teams combined for seven goals in the second period - five by the Gusties. Hamline was whistled for 15 penalties for 30 minutes. The Gusties had nine penalties for 18 minutes. The Pipers were 1 of 6 with an extra skater. Hamline starting goaltender Todor Petkov made 14 saves. Cameron Voss made 25 saves in relief. Erik Kraska picked up the win for Gustavus, making 30 saves. Hamline will travel to UW-River Falls on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. |
