Men's hockey picks up first win of the season

Senior forward Griffin Kilby scored at 17:21 of the third period to lift Hamline to a 2-1 victory over Finlandia in the first round of the Hockey Showcase held Friday night in Blaine, Minn.

Kilby scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Justin Hanna to earn their first victory under head coach Scott Bell.

The Pipers (1-4-2) trailed 1-0 after the first period, but senior Mike Forconi scored at the 7:34 mark of the second period to knot the game at 1-1. Kilby and first-year Jason Wong assisted on the play.

Hamline outshot the Lions (2-3) 26-22 in the contest. Hamline netminder Cameron Voss made 21 saves for his first career win. He posted ties in his two earlier starts this season. Lion goaltender Joe Juntilla had 24 stops in the game.

Hamline will move on to play Bethel on Saturday night. Game time in Blaine, Minn. is set for 7:30 p.m.
