Men's hockey drops 6-1 decision to St. Scholastica

First-year Dustin Fulton scored his first collegiate goal in Hamline's 6-1 loss to St. Scholastica.
St. Scholastica scored five unanswered goals to break a 1-1 tie and go on to defeat Hamline 6-1 Saturday night at Drake Arena.

Hamline (0-2) outshot the Saints (1-1) 31-25 in the contest and 22-15 over the last two periods, but St. Scholastica received two goals from Mark Menzies to break open the game.

Menzies scored at 17:30 of the second period to make the score 3-1. He added a power-play goal with 35 seconds elapsed in the third period.

St. Scholastica scored two goals in a span of 1:04 to start the third period. Matt Saler scored the second goal of the span for a 4-1 advantage.

After falling behind 1-0, the Pipers tied the game on first-year Dustin Fulton's first collegiately goal at 15:28 of the first period. He deked out Saint goaltender Steve Bounds off a leftside rush to the net. Fulton was assisted by first-year Joe Long on the play.

Bounds made 30 saves for the Saints while Hamline netminder Todor Petkov stopped 19 shots. St. Scholastica was 2 of 6 on the power play compared to the Pipers, who were 0 for 9 with a man advantage.

Hamline will next host UW-Eau Claire Friday night at Drake Arena. Game time is slated for 7:15 p.m.
