Men's hockey completes sweep of Concordia

Dustin Fulton scored two goals and added an assist in Hamline's 6-3 win on Saturday.
The Pipers jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two periods and coasted to a 6-3 win over Concordia to complete the series sweep Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena.

Hamline (3-12-3, 2-5-1 in the MIAC) grabbed the lead much the way they defeated the Cobbers (5-9-1, 0-6) the evening before - short-handed.

Tied at 1-1, the Pipers scored two straight short-handed goals. First-year Dustin Fulton his first of two goals of the game at 18:06. Just over a minute later, Steve Festler scored short-handed to make the score 3-1.

Hamline would up the lead to 5-1 with two goals in the second period. Joe Long, who scored two goals and two assists on Friday, added an even strength at 8:48 of the period, Fulton would score his second of the afternoon on the power play at 10:52.

Luke Chilson added a goal to begin the third period to make the score 6-1 before the Cobbers netted a pair of power-play goal for the game's final tally.

Matt McDonough scored his first collegiate goal at 6:51 of the first period as Hamline claimed a 1-0 lead. Concordia would later tie the score on a Sean Lofgren goal at 15:26.

Hamline netminder Todor Petkov made 22 saves to earn his second win of the series. Jeremy Boniface made 27 saves in a losing effort for the Cobbers.

Hamline will host St. Mary's Feb. 3 at Drake Arena. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
