Men's hockey jumps all over Concordia
The Pipers (2-12-2, 1-5-1 in the MIAC) quickly took care of business, outshooting the Cobbers (5-8-1, 0-5) 28-16 over the first two periods. First-year Tom Stunyo started the scoring at 5:06 of the first period. It turned out to be the only goal the Pipers would need. Hamline would score two short-handed goals before intermission. First-year Dustin Fulton scored his sixth goal of the season at 13:08 of the period. He later fed first-year Joe Long on a 2-on-1 breakaway for Long's fifth of the year at 18:30. The Pipers weren't done, scoring three goals in a span of four minutes late in the second period. First-year Steve Festler scored a pair of goals in the period - the first at 12:56 and second at 16:26. Festler scored his second goal just three seconds into a Piper power play when Long when a faceoff in the offensive zone, and Festler beat Cobber goaltender Josh Hand topshelf. Long finished the night with two goals and two assists. Cobber starter Mike Dowers made 20 saves before being chased after Long's second goal of the night. Hand stopped 10 shots for the Cobbers. Sophomore goaltender Todor Petkov made 23 saves to make his first win with Hamline a shutout. The two teams will square off again Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena. The puck will drop at 2:00 p.m. |
