Thrasher leads men's basketball past Oles
Thrasher shot 10-of-18 from the field to give the Pipers (2-6, 1-3 in the MIAC) their first conference victory of the season. It was the second time in three games that Thrasher has posted 25 points or more. Thrasher scored 10 straight Piper points during an 18-7 run late in the first half en route to a 38-27 halftime lead for the Pipers. The Hamline lead would grow to as 19 in the second half before the Oles (3-5, 1-3) cut the lead to eight points with just under nine minutes to play. But Kyle Foster and Thrasher hit buckets on back-to-back possession to push the lead back to double figures. The lead would stay above 10 points until the final minutes. Hamline turned an early 7-2 decifit into a 18-9 lead with a 16-2 run. Jon DeRock tallied six of his 14 points to spark the run. Hamline would never trail after that. Point guard Sam Wiener added 10 points, five rebounds, and six assists for the Pipers. Foster chipped in seven points and 13 rebounds. St. Olaf was paced by Steve Banick, Mark Bergstrom, and Bobby Hunter, who each totaled 15 points in the game. Hamline shot 47.5 percent for the game (29-of-61), including 51.7 percent in the first half (15-of-29). St. Olaf shot 36.6 percent for the game (26-of-71) and were held to 3-of-20 from three-point range. The Pipers will play their last game before the winter break when they host St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
