St. Mary's beats men's basketball, 84-70
![]() The Pipers (5-14, 3-11 in the MIAC) led 39-38 at the break, but St. Mary's (7-11, 6-8) outscored Hamline 46-31 in the second half to earn the win. St. Mary's took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half and pulled away with a 15-2 run midway through the final period. Eric Lear scored all five of his points during the run as five Cardinals contributed to the spurt. Brad Knights led the Cardinals with 18 points to pace four players in double figures. Brensley Haywood added 14 points while Dan Cormier and Mikey Sweeney each totaled 10 points. Sophomore forward Tony Thrasher scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting to lead the Pipers. Senior Kyle Foster came off the bench to chip in 10 points. The Pipers led by as many as nine points on two occasions in the first half - the last coming at 9:05 remaining after a Zev Kujolic basket. Hamline shot 46.9 percent in the first half (15-32) to take the halftime lead. They converted on 24-of-60 shots for the game (40 percent). The Cardinals shot 51.8 percent from the field in the contest (29-56). They also hit 10-of-19 three-point attempts. Hamline will host Augsburg Wednesday night at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
