Macalester beats men's basketball on last second bucket![]()
![]() The Pipers (4-11, 2-8 in the MIAC) came back from a 77-72 deficit with under two minutes to play to knot the score. Sophomore Jon DeRock nailed a three-pointer with 39 seconds left in the game to tie the game at 77-77. But the Scots (7-8, 4-6) scored the last bucket of the game on Liddell's layup with four seconds remaining. The game was neck-and-neck throughout the entire game with neither team leading by more eight at any time. There were 12 lead changes and seven ties in the final 20 minutes alone. Sophomore Tony Thrasher's jumper gave the Pipers a 72-71 lead - their last of the game - with four and a half minutes to play before the Scots reeled off three straight baskets. Thrasher finished the game with 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting to lead all scorers. Hamline shot 38.2 percent for the game (26-68), including 39.4 percent in the second half (13-33). Macalester converted on 41.9 percent of their shots from the field (31-74). Thrasher led three Pipers in double figures. Senior Kyle Foster netted 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. DeRock tallied 16 points for the Pipers. Macalester's Tom Conboy totaled 19 points. Abe Woldeslassie scored 15 poins. Lars Johnson chipped in 14 points, and Liddell added 11 points. The Pipers will host St. Olaf Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. |
