Men's basketball wins second straight

Sophomore Jon DeRock scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Hamline to a 74-66 victory over Concordia Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena.

Playing without forward Tony Thrasher, the guard picked up the slack, shooting 10-of-17 from the field for the game to lead all scorers. DeRock scored the first seven points of the game for the Pipers (7-14, 5-11 in the MIAC), who never trailed in the contest.

The Pipers went into halftime with a 44-32 lead after going on an 11-2 spurt late in the first half. First-year Erik Gusaas scored all four of his points in the run.

Concordia (3-17, 3-12) cut the lead to 46-42 in the early going of the second half, but only managed to get as close as 62-59 on a Brock Citterman three-pointer with 2:48 left in the game. The Pipers immediately responded with Chad Rich layup to go up by five.

First-year forward Brad Brake added 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Sophomore Zev Kujolic chipped in 11 points.

The Cobbers were paced by 22 points from Luke Linz, who was 5-fof-11 from the field and 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Cody Dyshaw tallied 11 points for Concordia.

Hamline shot 42.1 percent from in the contest (24-57) - 48.3 percent in the first half (14-29). The Pipers also converted on 22-of-23 free throw attempts. Concordia was held to 37 percent shooting in the game (20-54).

The Pipers will travel to Carleton Monday night. Tip off is set for 5:45 p.m.
