Men's basketball loses at Carleton

The Knights shot 74.1 percent in the first half to take a 23-point halftime lead and go on to a 98-61 win over the Pipers Monday night in Northfield, Minn.

The Knights (8-13, 7-9 in the MIAC) made 20-of-27 shots in the first half, including 8-of-13 from three-point range.

Tommy Drake scored 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead six Knights in double figures. Drake made all four of his shot attempts in the first half - three from beyond the arc.

Hamline (7-15, 5-12), who were back in the playoff picture after winning two straight games, was led by Chad Rich's 15 points. Sophomore Jon DeRock, the reigning MIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, was held to 10 points.

The Pipers shot a respectable 42.9 percent from the floor in the first half (12-28), but could not match the Knights' hot shooting.

Jake Phillips netted 16 points while Zach Johnson chipped in 15.  Bryan Rosett, Jay Melson, and Jeremy Sutherlan all scored in double figures for the Knights.

The Pipers will host Gustavus Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
