St. Scholastica's threes down men's basketball

St. Scholastica went 10 of 21 from beyond the three-point line, including six by Derek Johnson, as the Saints defeated Hamline 77-59 Saturday afternoon in Duluth, Minn.

Hamline (2-6) trailed by just two points after a back-and-forth first half, but the Saints (2-6) started the second half on a 17-2 run that lasted 6:42. Johnson hit three three-pointers and totaled 11 of his game-high 28 points during the spurt.

Hamline could get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way. 

The Pipers trailed 34-32 at the break after shooting 39 percent (11-28).  Hamline grabbed 11 offensive rebounds in the half and held a 45-31 edge on the boards for the game.

Junior Kyle Foster led the team with 14 points, including 10 of 12 from the free throw line, and 12 rebounds. He was the only Piper in double figures.

Johnson paced four Saints in double figures. Josh Gosar added 12 points while Robert Jackson had 11, and Scott Olson had 10.

The Saints shot 42 percent for the game (24-57). Hamline was 37 percent (21-57).

The Pipers will next play St. Olaf on Jan. 2. Tip off is set for 8:00 p.m.
