Thrasher leads Pipers to third straight win

First-year Tony Thrasher scored 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting to lead the Hamline men's basketball team to their third straight win, defeating Augsburg 83-71 Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis, Minn.

Thrasher also connected on 6 of 8 three-point attempts. He scored 15 points as the Pipers (5-6, 4-2 in the MIAC) built a 41-29 halftime lead.

Hamline began the game with a quick 7-0 run over the first 2:31 of the first half and never looked back. The lead would grow to as many as 16 points in the first half on Thrasher's third three-pointer of the half.

The second half was more of the same as Thrasher connected on his first two three-pointers to push the lead to 49-33.

The Auggies (3-8, 2-4) fought back with a 14-1 run that cut the lead to 64-60 with more than nine minutes left in the game, but the Pipers would score eight of the next 10 points to create a 10-point cushion.

The win was the Pipers third in a row, putting them tied for second in the MIAC.

Junior Kyle Foster added a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He was 5 of 7 shooting and 12 of 12 from the free throw line. Junior Sam Wiener had 12 points and seven assists.

The Pipers shot 51 percent for the game (23-45), including 67 percent in the second half (12-18). The Auggies were 44 percent from the field in the contest.

Justin Kozlowski led five Auggies in double figures with 19 points.

Hamline will travel to St. Mary's on Wednesday. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
