Gymnasts advance to NCGA Championships

The Hamline gymnastics team qualified for the NCGA Championships by placing third at the WIAC Championships/NCGA West Regional Thursday night in La Crosse, Wis.

Hamline returns to the NCGA as a team for the first time since 2004.  The Pipers finished with a score of 180.975. UW-La Crosse won the West Region Championship with a score of 187.7. UW-Oshkosh will also represent the WIAC at the NCGA Championships, finishing second with a score of 182.675.

Sophomore Brynn Stenslie, who was the Co-WIAC balance beam champion a season ago, placed fourth in the event with a score of 9.375.

Senior Katie Davis and sophomore Alex Hughes each placed sixth in the vault with identical scores of 9.5. Hughes was an NCGA All-American in the event last season.

Sophomores Kristen Weniger and Kayla Sirmans placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the uneven bars. Weniger also placed eighth in the floor exercise.

For the meet, Weniger totaled a 36.775 in the all-around - good for fifth.

Hamline will compete as a team in the NCGA Championships on March 23-24 at UW-Whitewater.
