Stenslie takes event title in Pipers' return home

After over a month away from competition in their home gym, the Hamline University gymnastics team hosted the Hamline Invite on Sunday, finishing fourth as a team while Brynn Stenslie (Renton, Wash.) won the floor exercise.

Whitewater finished first in the team competition with 180.400 points, followed by Winona State University in second with 177.750 points, UW-Stout with 174.725, and the host Pipers in fourth at 172.300.

For the Pipers, the meet highlight came in the final rotation as Stenslie excelled in the floor excercise, winning the event with a score of 9.225.

Kristen Weniger (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) finished fourth in the same event with a score of 9.075.

The other Piper top-five performance also came from Weniger, as she was fifth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.825. Weniger also scored a 9.00 on the vault and a 8.050 on the balance beam to finish seventh in the all-around with a total of 34.950.

The all-around title went to Justine Weyer (So., Colgate, Wis.) from Whitewater, with a score of 36.850 (9.525 on vault, 9.525 on the uneven bars, 9.125 on the beam, and 8.675 in the floor exercise). She was trailed slightly by her teammate, Danielle Crinzi (Jr., New Berlin, Wis.), who finished second in the all-around with 36.800. Meghan Hargens (So., Rosemount, Minn.) from UW-Stout finished third with 36.275 points.

Weyer was also the event winner on the uneven bars and vault. On the balance beam, Alison Lewis (Sr., Racine, Wis.) from UW-Whitewater took home the title with a score of 9.350.

Hamline next competes at Winona State this Thursday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m.
