Gymnasts fall in season opener

The Hamline gymnastics team opened their 2006 season falling to UW-Oshkosh 169.325-167.475 Friday night in Oshkosh, Wis.

The Pipers were paced by first-year Kayla Sirmans who was the only member of the team to compete in the all-around. Sirmans posted a 33.175 in the four events, including the night's highest score in the vault with a 9.125. Sirmans was also the team's highest scorer in the balance beam with an 8.4.

Senior Emily Wind led Hamline in the uneven bars with a score of 9.125. First-year Kristen Weniger scored a 9.025 in the floor exercise for the Pipers' highest score of the night.

As a team, the Pipers scored the most points in the vault with 43.775.

The Pipers will next compete at teh UW-Eau Claire Invitational held Jan. 14. The meet will start at 1:00 p.m.
