Hughes earns All-America honors in vault

Alex Hughes
First-year Alex Hughes took fourth place to earn All-America honors in the vault competition at the NCGA National Championships that were completed Saturday in Brockport, N.Y.

Both judges gave Hughes, from Sioux Falls, S.D., a 9.6 in the finals on Saturday night. Coupled with the 9.525 she received the preliminaries on Friday, Hughes scored a 19.125 to tie for fourth place.

Hughes' score of 9.6 in the finals broke Hamline's school record of 9.575 set by Linsey Hamilton in 2000.

The top six athlete in each individual event are considered All-American.

Hughes becomes the ninth Hamline All-American in the vault competition. The last time was in 2000 when Hamilton and Joanna Truchon each were All-American in vault.

Sarah Bulka of SUNY-Brockport won the event with a 19.5.
