St. Olaf triumphs over football, 31-6
![]() Wide receiver Horace Gant caught a pair of touchdowns for St. Olaf (3-0, 1-0 in the MIAC), including a 19-yarder from Matt Penz on the game's opening possession. After Evan Endsley returned the opening kickoff 68 yards to the Hamline 30-yard line, St. Olaf scored three plays later. Gant caught two passes for 29 yards on the drive. Penz finished the day with 350 yards on 20-of-36 passing with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Gant caught four passes for 116 yards and two scores with a 71-yard scoring strike on the opening play of the fourth quarter. The Pipers (1-1, 0-1) stopped the Oles on their next three possessions before St. Olaf upped the lead to 14-0 on a Ben Roff 4-yard scoring run with 12:53 left in the second quarter. Andrew Schmiesing caught five passes for 113 yards and a 72-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The Pipers got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 16-play, 82-yard drive, completed by a James Leary 1-yard touchdown run - his fourth touchdown run of the season. St. Olaf outgained the Pipers 412-128 in the game - 201-11 in the first half. Leary was 9-of-22 passing for 65 yards. Four of those passes went to wide receiver Andrew Seymour for 39 yards. Ben Ganske rushed for 59 yards on 12 carries for the Pipers. Senior linebacker Russ Flaten had nine tackles while senior strong safety Tyler Schultz had seven solo tackles with one fumble receovery. The Pipers will host Gustavus next Saturday at Klas Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. |
