Stolp, Gusties defeat Hamline 20-8

Gustie quarterback Jordan Stolp threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns to lead Gustavus to a 20-8 victory over Hamline Saturday afternoon at Klas Field.

The Pipers (1-2, 0-2 in the MIAC) grabbed an 8-0 lead midway through the second quarter, but Gustavus (2-1, 1-1) responded with touchdown drives on three of their next five possessions.

Gustavus cut the lead to 8-6 at the half on a Stolp 20-yard pass play to Patrick Wieneke with 1:31 left in the half.

The Gusties would add two touchdown drives in their first two possessions of the second half. Stolp was 9-of-12 passing for 104 yards and a touchdown in the third quarter. He finished the day going 20-of-29 passing for 232 yards.

Running back Adam Lukes gave Gustavus the lead at 8:22 of the third quarter with a 2-yard dive. Stolp later hit Kerry Zajicek for a 13-yard score.

The Pipers scored the first points of the game at the 7:44 mark pof the second quarter when Piper quarterback James Leary found wide receiver Andrew Seymour for a 27-yard touchdown pass.

Leary was 12-of-24 passing for 105 yards and a touchdown. Seymour caught seven passes for 97 yards.

Gustie wide receiver Chad Arlt made eight catches for 94 yards. Zajicek caught six passes for 63 yards.

Seniors Robert Thompson and Brody Anderson each totaled eight tackles for the Pipers. Adam Miron had 10 stops for Gustavus.

The Pipers will next host Macalester Saturday afternoon at Klas Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
