Theisen's four touchdowns lead Tommies over Pipers
Theisen tied a 19-year St. Thomas school record with the four touchdown catches. He opened the scoring with a 75-yard reception from first-year quarterback David Sauer with 8:26 left in the first quarter. He would score on a 25-yard pass with 4:06 to go to make the score 14-0. Hamline (3-6, 1-6 in the MIAC) answered late in the first quarter when quarterback James Leary scored from 8 yards out. The run capped a 10-yard drive set up by a St. Thomas fumble. Hamline entered the game ranked first in the nation in turnover margin. The extra point was blocked to make the score 14-6 The Tommies (4-4, 4-3) opened the game up scoring 21 straight in the second quarter. Theisen caught his third touchdown of the game with 10:17 left in the half. He also scored on a 31-yard pass with 1:49 before halftime. Tommie Don Jaeger added a 2-yard touchdown reception in the quarter. Sauer finished the day with 349 yards on 25 of 30 passing. Leary was 20 of 39 for 159 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for the Pipers. Hamline scored the only points of the second half when Leary found sophomore Andrew Seymour for a 10-yard hookup. Seymour totaled four catches for 53 yards and a score in the game. St. Thomas outgained the Pipers 477-197 in the contest with 351 yards coming through the air. Nine different Tommies caught passes in the game. Theisen caught his 100th career pass as well as topped a 100 yards for the fifth consecutive time this season. Hamline will close the 2005 season next Saturday when they travel to Carleton. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
